Writer, speaker, South-Asian Anthropologist, Ayurvedic practitioner, and personal development coach, Selena has been teaching yoga and movement since 2006.
Her classes offer yoga and meditation as a mechanism to shift the way we offer ourselves in all aspects of our lives and as a tool for granting profound healing in our bodies, our hearts, and ultimately our relationships.
She is deeply committed to raising up a generation of innovative, knowledgeable teachers. Her programs offer students and practitioners tools and methods to truly take yoga off of the mat and into the fabric of their lives so that they can show up more effectively in the world.
Selena holds a MPH from Boston University, a MA in Cultural Anthropology, and is a PhD Candidate at the University of Montana. She is a two time Cornell University Nepali Language Fellow, and 2017 Fulbright awardee.
She is currently completing her dissertation research on yoga and spiritualism in the West at the University of Montana.
Selena is a dedicated student and practitioner and fuses together practices, skills, and techniques from various lineages.
Before I ever met Elena in person she was inspiring my soul through her work on Yogaglo. In 2012 I began personal study with Elena and she has inspired me to pursue elegance in my speech, my teaching, my heart, and my communication.
Elena's teaching offers clear pathways to your Highest Self. Her work The Art of Attention, her Meditation Courses, her coaching work, and her magical journal Practice You have refined and inspired my teaching and personal practice far more than I could ever explain.
DR. DOUGLAS BROOKS
I began studying with Douglas Brooks through Yogaglo years ago and was deeply touched by his commitment to scholarship, accuracy, and elegance in education.
I am honored to call Douglas my teacher and daily inspired by his activism, outspokenness, and poetics. Douglas brings the yoga tradition alive and reminds us all that yoga is not an asana practice.
You can study with Douglas and Rajanaka at Summer Camp, on Pilgrimage in India, or via Distance Learning courses.
YOGA RUPA ROD STRYKER
I began studying with Rod and Parayoga in 2003, but took up formal study with Parayoga in recent years. Rod's dedication to lineage, studentship, and to the teachings has been profoundly influential in my life. The Four Desires, Four Desires Workbook, and his newest work Sanctuary are foundational to my personal practices.
Rod's systematic approach to the teachings anchored in his own long history of personal study makes him a true luminary.
Katonah yoga is a system that plays with the sacred geometry of the body, the archetypes of nature to strenghten our weaknesses and to leverage our strengths. It has and continues to teach me to get over myself and around myself. To use yoga asana as a potent tool for working from the outside in so that my physiology can inform my psychology and vice versa.
HANDEL GROUP COACHING
The Handel Group is a life-transforming coaching program that has been fundamental in my own healing and growth. Handel coaching provides pragmatic tools for better navigating every area of life so you can cut the crap and design a life of your dreams. The signature Inner U program is a 12 session Be a Better Human Manual. Their private coaching has been invaluable.
May my life be a love letter written to my generation and to generations to come.
MISSION. VALUES. PURPOSE
To create space for students to explore and develop in an atmosphere of support and empowered teaching. To give our students the tools to connect with their highest purpose and authentic self so that they can most effectively show up in the world.
To go beyond the mat, truly providing an education in the full system of yoga from classical philosophy to modern training science; providing the tools necessary to be dynamic, safe, effective, potent teachers.
I will not do for money what I won't do for love.
Teaching yoga is a lifestyle.
I believe in living our yoga both on and off of the mat.
Integrity is key.
I believe in being the same person on the mat as I am when I am alone.
You can only teach who you are.
Internal process over external performance.
Yoga isn't about fancy shapes or touching your toes. Yoga is about who you are and the way you are showing up in the world. How you are engaging.
I believe that an advanced practitioner of yoga is someone that is steady in their life. That is less taken and shaken by chaos of life, willing to see things as they are, and standing in equanimity.
With this in mind, I believe in an inclusive yoga environment that welcomes all practitioners.
I believe in living from love not for it.
We believe that everyone is either calling for love or extending it. And that it is our "job" to extend it.
I believe that when I am in present love I cannot go wrong.
To inspire, evolve, and elevate those around me through beauty and education. To provide tools and space to provide for all of our deepest healing. Finding pathways back to our Highest Selves. To empower those around me to communicate clearly and straight from the heart. To elevate those around me through authenticity, trust, compassion, and inspiration.
